When an elf named Herron claimed that Luna's mother offered him her protection over his cottage, woods, and treasure for the rest of his life, she felt obliged to carry out that duty in her mother's place, now that her mother was dead. Hermione Granger wasn't about to let her friend travel to the backwoods of the United States by herself, especially since she didn't trust this elf. She came to Louisiana with Luna, figuring they could quickly set up the enchantments and wards on the elf's property, keep it safe from all those who would try to steal it from him, and leave by the next morning.

Problems started to arise in the form of a tall, blond vampire sheriff named Eric Northman and a handsome, dark werewolf pack leader named Alcide Herveaux.
